In this series of videos J. Wayne Fears shows how he uses his ATV to maintain semi - permanent food with a base of Durana Clover, then over-seeded to add seasonal vegetation. In this segment J. Wayne explains why lime is so important to you plot management program. Do a soil test to determine your need for lime. This is explained in another video from J. Wayne Fears on this website. This food plot needs a ton of lime to be present in the soil for every three acres.
The spring is the best time to apply lime, but J. Wayne likes to apply a few bags of Pennington's Fast Acting Lime each year when planting fall plots. This product dissipates quickly, is water soluble and dissolves into the soil with the first rain.
The purpose of lime is to release the nutrients of your fertilizer, and needs to be applied if your soil test determines your PH is too low.
J. Wayne applies the lime using an Earth Way EV-N-SPRED spreader.
The message is to define the acidity of your soul with a soil test. Then in most cases you will need to apply lime.
J. Wayne manages his permanent Durana plot by following these simple steps on his ATV.
This process demonstrates how he manages his plot of Durana Clover, which is a perennial plant, as the primary species. This process will attract the deer and turkey you want. It is not like planting a typical food plot from scratch. There are several steps you must do, but if you do you will have a semi - permanent food plot that attracts game for years.
