Flat Shooting with Minimal Wind Drift
The Winchester .17 WSM rimfire rifle shoots Winchester Super Magnum cartridges flatter and more accurate than both the .17 HMR and the .22 Magnum.
Allowing minimal drift even in some of the windiest conditions, the .17 WSM is perfect for everything from plinking and competition shooting to small-game hunting, dispatching varmints and bringing down predators such as fox, coyote and bobcat. This lightweight rifle sends bullets hurtling downrange at an impressive 3,000 fps – causing very little damage to animal pelts, while producing minimal noise and recoil.
Don't discredit the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR) or the .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire (HMR). They have both been known as the most powerful rimfire cartridges available from the time they were introduced, and are still excellent for varmint and small-game hunting.
The .17 HMR bests the .22 Magnum in terms of velocity, trajectory and accuracy, while the .22 Magnum has an added advantage in energy, sectional density and ultimately, killing power. When hunting small-game animals within a 100-yd. range, the .22 WMR is the favorite, but if you estimate your shot is beyond the 100-yd. range, you'd be better off reaching for your .17 HMR.
