Match Grade at Any Distance
Using Doppler radar and state-of-the-art aeroballistics software, Hornady® engineers discovered that conventional polymer tips in high-ballistic-coefficient bullets melt in flight. Although not a significant issue affecting moderate-ballistic-coefficient conventional-tipped varmint and hunting bullets, aerodynamic heating causes ballistic-coefficient reduction and degradation of accuracy, particularly at ranges beyond 400 yds. To counter this effect, Hornady identified a heat-resistant polymer and developed the patent-pending Heat Shield™ tip. This revolutionary new tip creates the perfect meplat (tip) with exceptionally consistent results from bullet to bullet and lot to lot.
ELD-X™ and ELD™ Match (Extremely Low Drag) bullets combine Hornady's patent-pending Heat Shield tip with a streamlined secant ogive and optimum boattail design. They’re finished with a highly concentric AMP® bullet jacket, the most consistently concentric jacket available. Hornady verified the ballistic coefficient using Doppler radar and corrected to standard atmospheric conditions. The result is radically superior aerodynamic efficiency and long-range consistency that you won't find with any other polymer-tipped bullet.
