Join host Rob Keck this week on Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World Radio for an exclusive interview with the manager of the Mora National Fish Hatchery of New Mexico, Nate Wiese. Also joining the show will be Jeremy Voeltz, fisheries biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Tune in on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET on RURAL RADIO SiriusXM Channel 147 to hear insights on fishing, endangered fish species management, and the work of the USFWS.
Apache Trout |
Nate Wiese is the manager of the Mora National Fish Hatchery, located in northeast New Mexico near the town of Las Vegas. Nate has worked for the USFWS since 2004, rearing salmon and steelhead at Hagerman National Fish Hatchery and the Dworshak National Fish Hatchery, both in Idaho. In his 11 years working for the USFWS he has helped rear over 19.5 million fish. Nate says that he’s run out of names for all of them, but every one has been special.
Gila Trout |
Voeltz, a Fisheries Biologist with the USFWS’s Arizona Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, will also be joining the show to discuss his work toward the recovery of Apache trout. Apache trout are considered to be threatened with extinction. He works closely with the White Mountain Apache and San Carlos Apache tribes, for whom the fish is named. He supervises habitat restoration work and trout population surveys, monitoring the health of Apache trout and their mountain habitats.
