Strike King pro Mark Davis takes over the lead at the Table Rock Bassmaster Elite Series event.
Today's cold and windy conditions on Table Rock didn't give pro Mark Davis a case of the mully grubs (Mark Davis-ese for the blues). Nope, Davis popped to the top of the Table Rock Elite Series event with a two-day total of 33 pounds, 11 ounces. Just 10 ounces behind the leader is Mercury pro Chris Lane with 33 pounds, 1 ounce.
Rounding out the Top 5 are in third Phoenix Boats pro Aaron Martens weighing 33-0. Fourth is held by pro Mike McClelland with 32-4. Megabass/Nitro Boats pro Edwin Evers is in fifth with a weight of 30-13 ounces.
Davis keeps going
"It is hard to keep this going from tournament to tournament," said Davis. "So far so good here on Table Rock. I'm fishing a little technique that I like to do and I'm catching them pretty good. I'm catching a lot of fish. No 7-pounder today for me. My goal is to catch 15 pounds or so each day to do well here. So far I'm doing that."
Lane having a monumental tourney
"I don't know how I will do tomorrow," said Lane. "For me, this tournament has been a monumental step in my career. This is the first time I've ever made a check at an Ozark lake."
Martens searched for big fish
"I looked for a big bite today," said Martens. "This is a hard lake to find one. They are here, but you find one here and then five pockets down you might find another.
"Today I fished all new spots. My wife told me to go fish and have fun. I had fun and caught a lot of fish. It's is gonna be hard to get to the last day here. I need to catch a big fish tomorrow."
McClelland needs a kicker
"I'm fortunate and blessed to catch what I have," said McClelland. "I have not caught any big fish. I have to get a kicker to make it to Sunday. It's not easy. I was running all over the lake today.
"You have to fish by the seat of your pants on Table Rock. Once you figure out what they are doing, you need to run all over looking for the same things."
Evers had a good time
"I had fun today," said Wild River pro Edwin Evers. "I caught a lot of fish. Like everybody else has been saying, I need that kicker fish."
"I had a rough start to my season. It's nice to be fishing on Saturday."
Weather forecast for Branson on Saturday calls for generally sunny conditions with a few afternoon clouds. Highs projected to be in the lower 60's with wind from the east up to 10 miles per hour.
