Arey leading Beaver Lake marathon.
Heading out this morning, Pro Matt Arey referred to fishing the FLW Tour event on Beaver Lake out of Rogers, AR as a marathon. Stay consistent and bring in 13 pounds or more each day and you can win. Arey has done just that through three days. His limit weighing 16 pounds 4 ounces boosted him into first with 43 pounds 10 ounces heading into Championship Sunday. Holding on to the second is Livingston Lures pro Andy Morgan with a three-day total of 41 pounds 2 ounces.
Rounding out the Top 5 are in third, World Gym pro Travis Fox weighing 38 pounds 9 ounces. Fourth is held by Ranger Boats pro David Dudley with 38 pounds 5 ounces. Fifth heading into the final day was secured by Mercury pro Micah Frazier.
Arey's fish replenishing.
“This is an unbelievable feeling leading this,” said Arey. “To be fishing against the guys in this Top 10. To have Andy Morgan breathing down my neck. I’m sure gonna try to win this marathon. I said it before, 13 or 14 pounds each day can win this on Beaver, without using an A-rig.
“I’m catching a lot of fish each day. I’ve caught 8 or 9 largemouth bass each day. I’m fishing deeper transition areas. The water is falling, but I think my fish are deep enough that it won’t bother them. The area keeps replenishing. It was a fun day today.”
Morgan struggled.
“It was a struggle again today for me,” said Morgan. “I think I have a shot at winning this. It is gonna come down to one of the anglers catching a big bag tomorrow. Anybody in the Top 10 can win this.
“The blustery conditions called for tomorrow should be good for Beaver Lake. It’s the best conditions for catching them on Beaver. This lake is tough, but good. Anybody can win it tomorrow.”
Fox rolled the dice.
“Like a lot of the anglers, I struggled a bit today,” said Fox. “My co-angler caught a couple of good fish. I rolled the dice on my decisions and it paid off.
“I hope I get some sleep tonight. I’ve been waking up at 4:00 dreaming that I’ve sore-mouthed all the fish. I’ve been getting a big one each day. I need to get another big one tomorrow.”
Weather forecast for tomorrow calls for isolated thunderstorms in the morning, then mainly cloudy in the afternoon with widespread storms. Some storms may be severe. High temperature of 68 with winds south at 20- to 30-mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
