Hooking a predator,
Hard to believe that summer temperatures were with us in Minaki Ontario this past week, enjoyed the last days of the good weather 20c/68f and sunny compared to the end of the week in snow and rain blizzard like conditions.
However, my thrill of the evening is casting along the shore lines, amongst the rocks, fallen trees and stumps that are submerged in the water, rigged up with Bass Pro casting baits, aiming for a territorial species such as northern pike or bass. Casting ever so carefully in every spot along the meandering shores and docks. A few are spotted following my lure up to the surface. The excitement starts, I know they or at least one will soon grab and bite.... patience is tested.... finally waam!! As I cast and reel in slower and deeper, i have it hooked!!! The thrill of the catch is awesome, these guys are aggressive and fight hard to pull down and away their bite. Game on!!
Reeling in and up is tested, always wondering if my rod or line will snap, but managed to pull this out of the water for a quick head shot and back in for another time.
Outsmarting a predator is no easy task.
